With the release of the Station Generator to Early Access on itch going well, I decided to try to keep up the momentum and apply to have it added to the humble store. They replied very quickly that they agreed it should be on the store and were happy to get the ball rolling!
As you can imagine the Humble Store has a few requirements, though nothing out of the ordinary I hadn’t thought about how a bigger store like Humble would be more methodical in it’s approach to on-boarding. But as you might imagine it’s well thought out and it all makes sense.
My own experience so far has only been with the itch.io pages, which can be as simple as you like, or get pretty elaborate in some cases. I chose to delve a little into the CSS option itch.io affords developers and improve my page a bit while still keeping it fairly simple. Just give it that little extra polish I guess.
Station Generator hasn’t been on boarded just yet, so I don’t know how much control I’m going to have over the contents once they’re up, I do love how straight forward the submission for is. They’re looking for all the information you might expect, product description, retail price, ratings, screenshot etc. Everything I have to hand, except one thing I hadn’t thought of, which in hindsight it a bit obvious really: a trailer!
So now I need to get make a trailer for the Station Generator. I could just throw something together with some shots of the generator at work and call it a day. It would certainly do, and show how it works buuuuut I think I’m going to do something a little bit extra.
I just need to get a few friends together, break out the video camera and have some fun recording some table top gaming. I’ll have to write some kind of a script, organise some decent lighting that won’t make us look like vampires (or maybe..) and see what we can come up with. I think I’m gonna aim for something a bit corny and hopefully memorable, and put the feature list in separately.
Station Generator isn’t generating (punny) the cash to pay for editing software just yet but I believe Sony Vegas has a decent 30 day trial which should do the trick! I can use OBS Studio to get footage of the Generator at work for a features montage. Should be interesting, splicing it all together and getting some VO in the mix too.
Of course once I have the trailer on YouTube I’ll add it too my itch.io page and then hopefully the Humble Store page will follow shortly thereafter. After that, I will be working towards a Beta 1 release which will mainly address the user interface and its functionality. After that, well, I’ll try to get on steam via Greenlight!
Good luck on the trailer! It’s always tough to make it catchy enough.

Thanks, it’ll probably end up looking a bit amateurish but I’m aiming for that to be part of the charm rather than a negative xD
