Now that I’ve gotten a good way into the development of the Station Generator (3 pre-alphas and 4 alphas) and gotten it to look and feel something like a finished product it’s time to take stock and plan how I’m going to finish it. So I need to set some goals, and I need to make a plan to meet them, but I also need to acknowledge and accept my limitations and barriers and see what I can do about them.
Ideally I’d like to be at 1.0 by the end of the year. I’d really like to get back to working on the full game, but I don’t want to do that before I’m satisfied I’ve hit 1.0 status. I’d also like to get the Station Generator on Steam, which means a Greenlight campaign. I’ve learned a lot so far in The Willow Effect’s Greenlight campaign so that’ll help on that score.
For the Greenlight campaign I’m going to release a cut down version of the Station Generator as a demo. Maybe restrict some of the options and disable saving but functionally everything else will be there. I’ll also be talking about it a lot more before hand and doing a lot more work on the actual Greenlight page, including current and planned features. I’ll also get the game up on Gamejolt which seems like a pretty cool place, though not sure how they feel about table top tools, will ask at any rate 🙂
I have a decently long list of stuff I’d like to do to call it finished. It’s time I went through that list and decided on what is definitely going into the game and what is very much optional and possible post 1.0 and then planning the road map. I think I’m going to group like stuff together and do themed releases from here on out. I’ve been hitting a release a month pretty solidly since I started this and I hope to continue that way. So in reality I have maybe 4 more releases before the end of the year which narrows my vision somewhat, which suits me. I let scope run away with me a little bit on this project and it’s time to reel it back in and see where I can go from there.
I’m off work for the next 2 weeks so hopefully I’ll get some time to sort out the road map (star map?) and get started on the Greenlight campaign planning. I’ll post here when I’ve got something more solid to report.
